Skateboards

I have been playing around with skateboard decks as an alternative surface.  I remember when skaters would personalize their decks, and express their style, by customizing their grip tape.  Instead of merely slapping a solid sheet of black tape to the platform, some would cut designs in, and set their aesthetic apart from their peers.  Knowing that Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch was an avid skater, and was an enthusiastic part of that community, I’ve made several triple deck compositions, that feature him, and the Beastie Boys.  Inspired by the Beastie Boys, and the photography of Glen E. Friedman, I set out to use these unusual art materials.
